Street Fighter IV has hit the streets today and, to celebrate, we at iPlayStation are giving away copies of the game for Playstation 3. If you were wondering how well Street Fighter IV would fare in the sales department, here's your answer- it's doing pretty damn well.
Not only has it raked in plenty of critical acclaim, Capcom has revealed to IPlayStation.co.uk they have already shipped over 2million copies of the stellar fighter. The total numbers for the franchise are actually quite staggering: the name "Street Fighter" has managed to sell "over 500,000 machines and 27 million console games" since the series kicked off way back in 1987. Furthermore, according to iPlay Station, the PS3 version of SFIV is doing better than the Xbox 360 version in the UK; the Sony version grabbed about 53% of total launch day sales. The English really must love the game, as Street Fighter IV even knocked Wii Fit out of its lofty #1 sales slot, and overall, SFIV is the "fastest-selling traditional beat 'em up" in UK game sales history. It may be a bit challenging, but there's no arguing its quality, and for hardcore fighting fans, it's just the title they've been waiting for. Last year's Soul Calibur IV was great, but most will agree that it's more for the casual crowd.
With 2 million copies already shipped, SFIV could easily become one of 2009's hottest sellers, even though it'll have to contend with other blockbusters like Killzone 2. Well deserved, Capcom! Keep up to date of the latest games here at iPlayStation.co.uk
